How to change the headplate in a Duskin Saddle

Updated: Jun 5

One of the standout features of Duskin Saddles is their adaptability due to the Total Flex Tree™ technology but another part is the wide range of interchangeable headplates.

Changing the headplate is a task you can do yourself. Here's how easy it really is.

What You’ll Need

You don't need any specialist tools to change the headplate. Just the following and this step-by-step guide:

  • 4 mm hex key

  • A clear, flat workspace

  • A few minutes of your time

Step 1: Remove the Magnetic Badges

At the front of your Duskin Saddle, you’ll see two magnetic badges. These cover the fixing points and simply pop off—they’re held in place with magnets. Set them aside somewhere safe.

Step 2: Access the Fixings

With a 4 mm hex key, undo the bolt underneath the badge area which releases the front of the panels. Then, flip the saddle over with the cantle facing towards you. Move the girth straps out of the way and pull the panels back to access the headplate fixing area.

You’ll find two bolts under the leather. Unscrew them, and the existing headplate will lift out easily.

Step 3: Choose Your Headplate

Duskin Saddles use the same headplates as WOW Saddles giving you access to a full range of fitting options:

  • Widths from Extra Narrow (73°) to Very Wide (143°)

  • Three types to fit all wither shapes: V-type, U-type, and UU-type

V versions in sizes -1 to 3, U versions in sizes -1 to 9, UU version in sizes -1 to 3
V versions in sizes -1 to 3, U versions in sizes -1 to 9, UU version in sizes -1 to 3

This allows you to accommodate everything from high-withered thoroughbreds to wide, flat-backed cobs, which the Total Flex Tree™ adapts to.

Step 4: Fit the New Headplate

Make sure the new headplate nestles properly behind the smiley face-shaped bracket at the front of the tree. Bring the saddle up so the spigot (the little protruding part of the tree) passes through the headplate and sits flush.

Now replace the bolts and tighten them up securely. Once everything is in place, pop the gullet liner back and press your magnetic badges back on. That’s it - job done!
