In this video, David demonstrates how to adjust the thigh blocks on a Duskin Saddle to suit your riding style and support needs. The adjustable block system allows you to find the perfect position for comfort, balance, and performance.
Looks Fixed, But It Moves
At first glance, the blocks on the Duskin Saddle appear to be fixed in place. However, they are mounted on a discreet sliding system. To adjust them:
Locate the bolt and washer beneath the block by lifting the flap.
Loosen the bolt just enough to allow movement. There’s no need to remove it entirely.
On the other side, bend back the panel to find the slot in the flap and loosen that bolt as well.
Now the block can slide freely within its channel, ready for positioning.
Finding the Perfect Position
The easiest and most accurate way to determine the ideal block position is with two people: the rider and someone on the ground to observe, make adjustments, and take notes.
Place the saddle on your horse with the blocks loosened.
The rider mounts up, sets their stirrup length, and allows the leg to fall naturally into position.
While the rider stays still, the helper can adjust the block so it sits just in front of the thigh, positioned over the stirrup bars - not pressing into the leg, but close enough to provide solid support.
Make visual notes of the block’s position on both sides—such as a thumb’s width from the top and bottom—before the rider dismounts.
Tip: These blocks are designed as thigh blocks, positioned higher and in front of the thigh for greater comfort and security. They can comfortably sit over the stirrup leathers and not interfere with stirrup safety or movement.
Fine-Tuning and Securing the Block
Once you've finalised the block position:
Use your visual reference—such as a thumb’s width from the top and bottom—to ensure symmetry on both sides.
Tighten the bolts.
When tightening the bolt under the flap, bend the panel away from the flap, rather than pulling the flap outward. This avoids distorting the shape of the saddle.
Ensure the block is flush and looks like it’s “sunk into” the flap. It should be firmly in place and not shift under pressure.
Adjusting the thigh blocks on your Duskin Saddle is a simple yet highly effective way to enhance your riding comfort and stability. With just a few tweaks, you can personalise the fit to match your unique leg position and riding style—helping you feel more connected and secure in the saddle. Remember, once you’ve found the perfect setup, the blocks will stay firmly in place until you decide to adjust them again. Whether you’re training, competing, or enjoying a leisurely ride, this customisation ensures your Duskin Saddle works with you, every step of the way.
